Monkeys

Started in December 2002. The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo.

Planting a sound in the monkeys' habitat at the Zoo in Leipzig and Berlin. 

Since 2002 I have been transferring sound recordings of a community of monkeys from one location to another.

I started the first series of recordings at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem in 2002.

During alternating periods, for several months, I recorded the sounds made by the monkeys for several hours.

In 2003, when the recordings had accumulated,  I filmed the reactions of a parallel community of monkeys at the zoo in Berlin and Leipzig, 

after these recordings had been inserted as active sound files into their habitat.

Why should one observe and listen to monkeys?

What is the source of interest in the monkeys’ subconscious and the conversation between two different realms of cognition?

Listening to foreign and alienated parts inside me continues to fascinate me to this day.
