the black forest. They consist of an extended observation of different species of birds of prey - owls, barn owls, eagles as well as bats. The entire series was done with shut or blindfolded eyes for a long period of time and the focus of the drawing activity is on a broken, missing line.

Her long-standing interest in broken language brought Sasportas to connect the media of sound and drawing. Here, the drawings correspond with the recordings of the trees in the Black Forest, and more specifically with the exact location attributed to a historical meeting between Martin Heidegger and the poet Paul Celan. The seismograph lines are intertwined with the broken line language of the “blind” bird drawings.

The encounter between a missing organic line and the field of coded information taking place in a blind space is one of the core principles of the witness drawings. They deal with the encounter between repressed, rejected but active information felt by the animal and the manner in which this information is passed on to the public domain by means of drawing. The information is activated by the silent image that exists outside the realm of language.
